Project Challenge

We were asked to make coat racks because Rome High School hosted coats for people but had none. We started with some blueprints already so we just made those. Coat racks, in my opinion, don't need to be overly complicated and the ones for the blueprints we were given were pretty good at being coat hangers and did their job. But in my opinion, there were some flaws.

Design Research

Honestly, when researching I didn't see anything that caught my eye that would be too innovative from what we were going off of. The only things I could think of when looking at our prototypes are to back the back two legs straight with the PVC moved forward a bit and also just add criteria for everything to be sanded down. What I'm thinking about when the back two legs should be straight is that in my opinion, it would be smart to put it against a wall for more support as well as move the PVC more forward so we can make up for the space that would be lost if we shove the rack against a wall. Then for the criteria of everything being sanded down, it's just that when I went to look at everyone's prototype, some were poking out with broken wood and I actually cut myself so to the same thing can happen to other people. Also increasing the width of it would be a good idea as it could hold more coats.

Design Concept

Here I just made some simple designs from the sides I made. I don't think there is really any need for me to make any of the other sides because I see them as being fine and they don't need to be changed as those sides worked fine. I could not think of any more ideas for designs as we already had a great basic blueprint to go off of, and unless I were planning to make it aesthetically better I don't think there needs to be much change.

Project Evaluation

The welded shelves successfully met the storage requirements for the workshop. The joints showed good penetration and strength, the structure is level and stable, and the piece demonstrates proper welding technique and metal fabrication skills. For future projects, I would consider adding adjustable shelf heights and exploring different surface treatments for enhanced corrosion resistance.
