    We were asked to make a 3d printable modular storage system that can be snapped together with others of the same design so that they can be connected together. The criteria for the project was that it takes less than four hours to make and less than 400 grams of filament

    I started to look at other projects similar to my idea on Thingiverse which I could get inspiration from. The ones I mostly got my ideas from are listed below:

    An interlockable system of multiple different boxes of the same design is mostly what I wanted to have ideas on.

  1. Design Concept

    My drawing was absolutely terrible so I didn't include it and instead remade it online. It has the concept of interlocking multiple of the same prints together.

    Now this one I did not do as I believed that the main part of it, which had the little T-shaped growths on it would just break off too easily.

    So I ended up going with my first design which had the little T shapes that would fit into each other. The idea is the bottom of the piece the crate will fit into will fit onto the top piece of itself and the same with the sides so it can go in any orientation. The way I would test this is basically just by printing two of them and making sure they work.

  1. Construction Process

    This was my final design printed out and it actually works really well so far. I used a infill density of 10%, tree support patterns, and normal quality.

Evaluate/Reflection

    Now, this worked perfectly fine and was made just as I wanted it to be. It passed half of the criteria, though. It only took 172 grams of filament in total but it took over 20 hours to print both parts to it.

  2. Reflection

    I designed this project in Autodesk Fusion as well as using Cura to actually print it. I have no idea on how I can make it take less time to print and I will probably look into that when I am going to make more of these. I would probably also change the door handle to a more rounded cube type handle as the handle itself is very thin and feels as if it will snap at any moment.
